Backpackers Guide to Brisbane

Brisbane has a huge entertainment scene with bars, cafes and restaurants scattered all over the city. There is a number of good bars to be found around the city centre but the majority of the action is focused around Fortitude Valley known simply as ‘The Valley’ to the locals. Brunswick Street in The Valley has a kilometre stretch devoted solely to bars and clubs where every night of the week is party night. If you’re looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of Brisbane’s party capital head down to South Brisbane and a little further a field the West End.

Down Under Bar
One of the city centres most popular backpacker bars, the Down Under Bar is attached to one of the cities Brisbane backpacker hostels, Palace Backpackers. The Down Under Bar offers a rowdy drinking environment that is heaving most nights with the brisbanes backpacker community. Drink deals and live entertainment are in abundance as well as a typical backpacker bar environment.

Dooley’s
Situated in The Valley, Dooley’s is one of a handful of Brisbane’s Irish bars and offers great entertainment. The downstairs bar offers a good selection of beers and surprisingly good Guinness so far from Ireland. The upstairs houses a pool hall that draws in the locals and backpackers alike. Weekends see the bar get very busy as The Valley fills up, live music and a great party atmosphere makes this bar one of the suburbs most popular.

Zoo
Brisbane's party capital Fortitude Valley has numerous clubs and bars for the backpacker to choose from. Zoo is one of the suburbs best with doors open till the early hours of the weekend. There are drink deals available for the money conscious but the pumping music is free. Gets very busy at weekends when live DJ’s bring the house down.
