Queensland is known as the sunshine state and many travellers backpacking Australia believe that Queensland has the most to offer. Queensland’s state capital, Brisbane sits on the banks of the Brisbane River and is one of Australia’s most up and coming cities. Brisbane sits about 15 miles inland from the coast which can be somewhat of a shock for uneducated travellers that are expecting to find a beachside city. However, don’t be put off by the lack of sand and surf as the river setting has its own beauty and quality.
