Adelaide Backpacking Guide
South Australias state capital Adelaide is too often only used as a transit point by backpackers backpacking Australia. The city is a great place to use as a starting point for trips to the red centre and Uluru, or as a start point for the long trip west towards Perth over the Nullarbor Plain.
Accommodation is plentiful in Adelaide, however parking is not, so the most popular hostels are those with available parking so best to try and book ahead during peak summer periods.

Many travellers backpacking Australia are so focused on where they are heading next, they dont take the time to see what Adelaide has to offer, and Adelaide has a lot to offer the backpacker. The city centre is filled with a superb shopping district with a great mixture of chain stores and boutique shopping in some of the more trendy suburbs. Adelaide is somewhat pinned to the coast by the Mount Lofty Ranges, but this makes for a great setting that given the chance, you cant help but fall in love with.
